Lance Stephenson also thinks it’s funny that he’s on the same team as LeBron James.
After years of doing whatever he could — including blowing into James’ ear — to beat him and failing, James’ camp reached out to Stephenson’s agent this offseason about teaming up, the former Pacer told reporters on a conference call Tuesday.
“It was actually funny that I am actually on the same team,” Stephenson said, via ESPN. “I am very excited to see what that brings and just playing with him, one of the best players in the game, is going to be amazing. I can’t wait to get on board.”
Along with Stephenson, the Lakers also have added JaVale McGee and Rajon Rondo while retaining Kentavius Caldwell-Pope since James announced he was coming to Hollywood.
It’s an unorthodox supporting cast, as the Lakers have few shooters to put around James. Stephenson thinks he can bring a defensive edge and that he’ll be allowed to showcase his personality.
“I actually talked to Luke [Walton] and he basically told me he wanted me to be myself, bring that defensive edge, be a leader on and off the court for the young guys and just bring that focus of winning and coming to compete every night,” Stephenson said. “But the one that stands out the most is letting me play and let me be myself, and when you got a coach telling you that stuff, it is just amazing.”
There’s every chance Stephenson unfiltered may be more entertaining than LeBron in LA. We eagerly await to see.
